My name is Stéphane and I'm the designer at Stack Exchange who made the design of this site. You may have noticed some updates to the design lately.

The updates are part of a SE network-wide update to a new base css framework (the code which display the design).

This network update allows us to:

  • Have sharper / more beautiful design on retina displays
  • Fix layout bugs
  • More easily add new features to all of our sites in the future

If you see any bugs please let us know in the form of answers (to this post) that illustrate one particular thing at a time.

Thanks!

  • Has line-height been changed for text? Or am I just imaging that it's harder to read? The font family appears the same.

  • @Scott I think so, where exactly do you have trouble to read?

With all of these bug reports it might be nice to hear that in general the updated design feels more fresh and modernised, and both text and graphics definitely look sharper on my non-retina laptop screen. Nice work and thank you.

Reading all the issues below, I couldn't help thinking "wow, they must hate working on our site"... Thanks for all the hard work and for putting up with our nit-picking! Apr 13, 2015 at 13:27

Comment profile names are a bigger font that the rest of the comment. The names are 20px whereas the rest of the comment is 18px. This looks particularly awkward when the .owner class is applied (like this) because of the background color.

Also, the .owner class has three different background colors, all different, when it only uses the last one... Why are the other two there? Which one is correct?

The highlighted background for questions with accepted answers isn't shown on the 'Questions' page. It is shown on the front page, as you can see:

If you inspect the CSS, the style for the background highlight is still there but is being overridden.

  • I always thought this was intentional Oct 23, 2015 at 12:51
  • I don't see why it would be intentional? Theres no reason I can think of to hide if a questions answers have been accepted on one page and not the other.. or at all. And the highlighting, or at least some different styling is there on every other network site as far as I can tell

Recent changes to the flag summary page have dropped the sidebar to the bottom of the page

Totally legit flag history

It's now fixed, it'll be live after our next production build.

"Top tag" badge is sometimes pushed to next time. This has happened a few times now for me since the top tag name for me is long.

Text on bounty expiration is not properly in line. It should be aligned to the bottom, not top.

  • Which browser are you seeing this in? I can't seem to reproduce this. Dec 14, 2015 at 21:02

Alignment of badges in the nav bar are off now. This is true across all SE sites.

Meta is affected as well

When long tags are used when posting (or editing) a question, it doesn't push the end ones to a new line. Instead, it leaves only the end ones visible with some cut off.

  • Good catch. We've pushed a fix that should now center the tags within the input field. Dec 14, 2015 at 0:01
